Sourcing GHK-Cu in the UK, and what to check first

GHK-Cu listings vary a lot in how accurately they describe the material. These are the checks worth making before you order from any UK supplier, ourselves included.

1. Check which CAS number the listing carries

A copper-complex product should show CAS 89030-95-5. A listing showing 49557-75-7 is quoting the free tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, which is a different material. It is the most common error in this market, and it is a fair proxy for how carefully a supplier has prepared everything else.

2. Check the mass basis

50mg of copper complex is not 50mg of GHK. The free tripeptide has a molecular weight of 340.38. The complex is roughly 402. Around 15% of the complex mass is copper and associated coordination. Suppliers quoting on different bases cannot be compared directly on price per milligram.

3. Ask what the purity figure was measured by

A bare purity percentage means little without a method attached to it. Ask which method produced the number, and expect a straight answer.

4. Check storage and condition on arrival

GHK-Cu should arrive lyophilised and sealed, and should be stored at -20°C in the dark and dry. If material turns up in a condition inconsistent with that, raise it with the supplier before you open the vial.
